EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RECEIVING A HEALING.
By: Natalie Rose
I have put together this guide so that you can be prepared for receiving either a Reiki or Shamanic healing.
How to prepare
There isn’t anything you need to do to prepare. However, you may notice certain things coming up or happening. Things that may happen before a healing include:
Reliving past memories or traumas: these memories will come to the surface because they need to be addressed and healed during your session.
Wanting to cancel the healing: you may experience bouts of extreme anxiety about the healing that make you want to cancel it. THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. It is a form of resistance. More specifically, it is an unconscious part of you that is afraid of receiving the healing. It is best to ignore it and reach out to your practitioner if you feel uncomfortable.
Physical ailments: this is also a common thing that happens prior to your healing. You can fall ill or feel like you are getting sick. You may feel run down or like you’re developing illnesses, such as the sensation of a UTI without actually having a UTI. Similar to point 2, it is just energy coming to the surface regarding what needs to be healed. My best advice is to rest and recover, but not allow it to interfere with you receiving a healing. Again, please reach out to your practitioner if this happens.
During the Healing
Every healing experience is different, depending on what work needs to be done. My best advice is to just be open. Open to receiving. Open to healing. Open to listening and understanding anything that may come up.
You can expect to cry, laugh, or to be calm. During Reiki for example, you simply go into a meditative state while your chakras are worked on. You may feel tingly, or the relief of pressure in certain areas. Whatever you experience or feel is normal, and if you’re unsure about anything then please alert your practitioner.
After the Healing
Many people have different experiences after a healing. Some feel fine and complete, and don’t need further sessions. For others though, one session merely skims one layer of energy. This means that they may feel other issues coming to the surface, or may feel “off” during a healing. It’s important to contact your practitioner and keep going until you feel better.
Common things to experience afterwards are:
Feeling completely calm and serene
Feeling happy and secure
Crying: cry as much as you need to because it releases all the pent up energy and emotions in your body!
Anger and frustration
Feeling triggered by other people or situations
Anxiety
Feeling run down and unwell, like you’re coming down with a cold/the flu or have a stomach virus. This is completely normal and is the toxic energy purging out of your body. If you are concerned for your health, please alert your practitioner and see a medical professional.
Having other parts of your trauma come to the surface. Sometimes during a healing we work on one part of your trauma, which then allows for the energy underneath that to come up to be released in another session.
Every situation is unique. Just embrace what is coming up and make sure you are grounded. Whether that be through resting, journalling, or sitting out in nature, make sure you are connected to the earth so that you don’t feel so up in the air after a healing.
Your practitioner will guide you on what to do after your healing and check in with you in the following weeks to see how you are travelling afterwards.
