Why You Should NOT Take A Psychic Reading Literally
By: Natalie Rose
Have you ever had a psychic reading where parts of it never came true, didn't feel like it applied to you, or had the complete opposite happen? Or had no information come through at all? Believe it or not, you're not the first person this has happened to, and you won't be the last.
Reading the future is a surprisingly tricky practice. Your reader is at the mercy of the spirit world and your energy. Mediums and/or psychic can not control what information does and does not come through, as they are relying on your spirit guides to answer your questions. And this also applies to them using divination tools, such as tarot cards.
It’s also important to remember that readings should be approached as guidance, rather than true fact. Collectively, we are stepping out of an era of psychics "telling us our future”, and living our lives according to that. We are instead stepping into a time where it’s important for you to make your own decisions about your life. To make decisions that make you happy and fulfilled.
We control our destinies and decisions. And we don’t need any validation or confirmation from anyone else to embrace this.
Let’s break down into more detail the common reasons why you shouldn’t take a psychic reading literally.
Human Error and Channelling
As psychics/mediums are also human, they may misinterpret or not understand what messages come through. Sometimes the message does not come through clearly - it may present through complex imagery, symbols and other unclear methods that make it hard for us to interpret.
And, as I mentioned before, this is out of our control. We depend on the spirit world for our information. Therefore, if they lie to us, we may not pick that up and present it forward as truth (and the reasons for this will be explored in more detail below).
Another issue with channelling is that you may receive a message for someone else. I have had this happen to me. I once was told by a psychic that a month later I would be celebrating something, and that my great-grandmother sent through this message by showing her “balloons.” I entered that month feeling super excited by life, only to be crushed by a few setbacks that really upset me at the time. My sister, however, passed and graduated from her University degree that month. And we all celebrated it together.
In fact, my sister often receives messages about me during her readings (which is great for me because I get free readings) and I’ve also received messages about her.
This can happen with family members, as you are closely related, share the same energies and may also share similar spirit teams. Spirits can also use your reading as a chance to send messages through for someone else you know.
My mum went to a psychic with our cousins, and received messages about one of the cousins she was with during her reading (which was super awkward after because it was personal stuff for her). Sometimes even visiting with your friends or family can confuse the psychic. This is because both of your energies are present, meaning the energies of the other person may accidentally come through early.
If you find yourself getting upset or frustrated, take a deep breath and discuss your options with your reader.
2. Your Energy
Your energy also impacts the quality of the reading. If you are unclear of why you’re there, or are trying to test if your psychic or medium is “genuine” or not, this may actually backfire on you. Energetically, this can create blockages that stop the reader from being able to access your information and your spirit team. Your team is there to protect and honour your wishes, so if you don’t want someone to find out about things, your spirit team will honour that and create problems during the reading. I have seen this with multiple clients, and the quality of their readings are not as high as those who come in with openness and directness.
My advice: when booking a reading, have a list of questions or general areas you’d like to focus on. This gives spirit the ok to send messages through to your reader and opens the flow of the reading. Be open to receiving any messages, and be open to sharing your life details with your reader. Even if you don’t spill your whole life out loud, just being open to the fact that you want to share information will send that across to your team and open up the flow for your reader.
3. You can change your future
This is a pretty important aspect to remember when having a reading. We all have free will, meaning that we can choose to go down whatever path that we want. To make whatever decision feels right to us in the moment when faced with different situations.
Having free will means that we can change our future that a psychic has predicted. There is nothing wrong if this happens, and you don’t need to worry that you’ve disrupted the time/space continuum. The future is much more fluid than we have been taught to expect. We can change things with our choices, and the same applies for other people in our lives. Just trust that this was meant to be part of your life path and lessons.
Spirit always wants us to choose ourselves, and what is best for us. So have faith in the decisions and choices that you make.
4. Having too many readings, and too close together
Believe it or not, you can have too many readings. Particularly if they are close together.
Sometimes, psychics see stuff way in advance. So if you have a reading a month later, not much may have changed in your life since your last one and there may not be any further information available to you yet. I would recommend spacing them out from anywhere between 3-6 months onwards. This is completely up to you, but I would recommend pacing it out as much as you can if you have not seen a lot of change in your life.
If you have too many readings on the same subject, you’ll start to get inaccurate information. Because you are wanting to know an outcome of something, and are not open to waiting to see how it unfolds, you disrupt the energy around the event. Spirit will purposely mislead you so that you cannot predict the outcome, especially if there are lessons involved.
This happened to me. I was being bullied at one of my old jobs, and kept going to psychics for the answers. Eventually, all of the readings started to present me with different and conflicting information. And none of what they said would happen ended up happening. I had put all of my eggs in baskets that caved in, and broke my eggs anyway. I ended up confused, hurt, angry and disappointed.
But the real problem was me. I was putting too much focus on the external situation, and trying to control what my bullies were up to. What I should have been doing was looking for another job and not letting them push me around. But, I learned my lesson. And now I’ll trust and honour myself above others in the future, especially if a situation like that arises again (it did, and I left those jobs straight away).
5. You have Lessons to Learn
We touched on this above, but if you have lessons to learn, spirit may not give you the answers you need. We all incarnate with the intention to learn lessons that help our soul to evolve and develop, also known as a soul contract. This contract is signed before we are born, and begins as soon as we start gestating within our mothers. Therefore, if no information about a topic comes through, it’s because you’ve agreed in your contract that you want to experience something - whether it’s a lesson or not - with no prior warning.
You are living the full experience, truly in the moment, with nothing to shape you but your emotions and your reactions. Which I think is pretty magical and brave.
6. No news is good news
Ever heard the phrase “no news is good news”? Well this can apply to psychic readings. If nothing comes through on a topic, it can be because your spirit team does not view it as something to be concerned about. This can mean that nothing is going to happen, or that if it does, you’ll be totally able to handle it on your own.
In Conclusion:
It’s super important for you to trust your own intuition. If something doesn’t feel right or resonate, that is for a reason and you need to honour that.
You have free will and should make your own decisions without being influenced by anyone else
Enter your reading with optimism and a sense of openness to whatever information may present itself
Channeling can be an unreliable practice, so don’t take things to heart
Spirit guides control all the messages that come through, not the psychic/medium
You should space out your readings and avoid asking the same questions (especially about a specific topic)
If your reading isn’t resonating, discuss your options with your reader
